I'm dying Reply Brent May 11, 2017 I just saw Red Reply Tech YES City May 11, 2017 Great video man, I recently got the 240hz monitor in for review and it's motion is so fluid and noticeable, you are right about our brains being fed a constant stream of information. We are biological, can't compare a mechanical term and apply it to humans. Reply cfehunter May 11, 2017 Doesn't this only work if you have a monitor that can handle 120 Hz (and have your display mode set to it)?Otherwise, depending on if you have vysnc on or not, you'll only see the one image. You'll see a mix of the two if your brain merges it or or a sliced tear of the two if you're perceiving the refresh without vysnc. Reply denzyl casuela May 11, 2017 My monitor is only $20 Reply denzyl casuela May 11, 2017 I saw red blue violet green and pink colors. I think this is because I have a 60 hz 5ms monitor Reply Lucas Da Ronco May 11, 2017 So, I wasn't able to discern each and every frame that was blue or red, but I was able to see some flicker every now and then where one of the two colors would show up. I always gamed at 60fps and never had a 120-240hz display so my eye is not trained. If I did use a monitor like that, wouldn't my eye start discerning those frames? Reply CerN May 11, 2017 Seeing is one thing. Feeling is another. Mouse movement feels severely different at higher FPS. It's the combination of interaction and eyesight that makes it such a massive difference.Additionally. Using animations in games (I.E Dark Souls example) is not the best idea. The game can be running at 120fps, but the animation itself might not contain more than 60 frames. Reply DrayneR May 11, 2017 But can we overclock our brain ? 😀 I love science so much ^^ Great video 🙂 Reply ScottASF May 11, 2017 If you're watching on mobile, move your phone quickly to see the change. Reply carlos ramirez May 11, 2017 nice video I have a monitor at 60hz and at 720p 60fps at 2x speed I see how it changes blue / red and you see a purple flicker and when I set the default speed it always looks purple with flickers blue / red someone sees something different with a higher refresh rate ? sorry for my bad english :p Reply Julien Groulx May 12, 2017 Haha! With a 60hz monitor I just saw a red dot and it's normal because 1 frame out of 2 was red and my monitor displayed 1 frame out of 2! Reply Acid001 May 12, 2017 couldn't do x2 because my PC started dropping frames like mad. I could clearly see the changes at 1 and 1.5 though and I suspect I could at x2 if I didn't drop frames. Reply PragmaticWisdom May 12, 2017 I ran this test on myself twice, strangely, the first time at the hypothetical 120fps I saw just blue, on the second test I saw purely red. However, when I dropped it back to 1.5 times speed (hypothetically 90fps) I found that if I focused hard enough, I could see the different colours being changed, although if I didn't focus, all I saw was purple, if I dropped it back to 1.25 times (hypothetically 75fps) I didn't need to focus to see the colour changes. So effectively, anything above 75fps is ok for me, this is pretty freakin' awesome! Reply Fox Unit Delta May 13, 2017 at 1.5 i could see it change color but at 2 i couldn't, i guess that means my eyes are broken Reply Kitsune Ken May 13, 2017 seizures! (。_＋)＼ Reply Art Beast May 13, 2017 i saw blue and a bit of red but then all of a sudden i think it turned out to be purple not sure Reply Khotta Bogard May 13, 2017 great job man!tho I'm still waiting for the person who will explain how our eyes work with realitt and videogames, by using photography terminology and examples to clarify the topic once for all. Because with photography and video, we can estimate the frame rate and shutter speed that our eyes perceive reality, but i won't get into much detail. I'm just gonna say this, our eyes don't see frames, they percieve motion, when you take a 24fps movie and add fake motion blur between the frames, the movie will look smoother but not as pleasant, it will look like speeded video, and that doesn't work in movies, because they try to simulate the perception of our eyes to the real world. When a source gives us more info than what we see irl, we can tell the difference. Reply Dion Miller May 14, 2017 Look at you trying to cause epileptic seizures and shit. Reply Muhammad Shuginubi May 14, 2017 Simply saying, there's no FPS for our eyes, there's refresh rate of information recognition for our brain, which depends on our activity. we can bound them, and let's say it around 30-60 fps for calm human (depends on type of temptation), roughly 120 fps noticeable for human after hard workout, and maybe 240 for human under adrenaline. Reply Sam May 14, 2017 What the heck, at normal I saw purple, at x1.25 and x1.5 I saw the change, and at x2 I saw just red, and the second time I did it I saw just blue. My monitor is definitely 60fps (HP Pavilion 27bw). What is going on here? Reply Christopher Ticknor May 15, 2017 60 hz refresh rate i only saw red, 120hz refresh i seen purple, set monitor to 144hz and and i could see the flashing red to blue…. hmmm now i need a 400 hz monitor Reply Anthony D Cruz May 15, 2017 am i just an idiot? all i saw was one blue dot and nothing else. and i went through all the speeds in the settings lol. Reply Jeff Walter May 15, 2017 I think while at x2 speed, YouTube depicted the first frame and played that throughout the whole section of the red and blue dots, or my monitor is too slow because i only saw a stream of red, paused it, played it, and then there was a stream of blue. Our Brain only using certain amount of data from our eyes to calculate speed, movement, ratio, of an object to fit our criteria. And those criteria are deeply connected to our Instinctual way of thinking, the way that make our brain works as the species that survive Natural Selection. Reply Tea June 3, 2017 youtube skips every other frame at 2x speed it's still 60fps, the youtube player does not support 120fps even if it did have 120fps, most people watching the video will still have 60hz monitors, so the monitor will not update beyond that speed, which is 60 times per second Reply George Shaw June 4, 2017 umm i only saw blue Reply Kenchan1337 June 5, 2017 btw @ 4:15 i dont agree with the skipping when moving from front left to front right, instead i'd say you create about 3 stops between point A and B, not 1 giant skip. Reply The Jassi-fricka-nation June 6, 2017 I uh… only saw red on the first test… I don't think my 60hz monitor did it justice… Lowered it to 1.5 and got a bit of strobing that hurt my eyes (but I could see a bit of the changing going on at that rate)… At regular speed, it's mostly purple with a bit of blue and red swirling more inwards… Reply Daniel McDavid June 7, 2017 I saw purple at 1x speed Reply Щербан Дерматухен June 7, 2017 1 speed seen sparking but pritty clear perple (drfinaly perple). I am 68 years old and it is 12:30 a.m. and I have been in front of the computer all day, so my eyes are tired. At .5 speed red and blue were obvious. At .75 speed red and blue were seen with a little purple. At about 1:29 and about 1:45 there was an obvious slow down or extended period where red and blue were on screen as they were very easy to see at full speed. Even at full speed the color was not constant, it flickered continuously. Interesting video, thank you. Reply Joseph Good July 9, 2018 I wish I could set up a truly blind taste test with Linus and this guy and maybe the dude from unbox therapy and jayz2 and ur average consumer… have them ready to play a bunch of games on a state of the art tv/monitor. have them play 5 different games on 4 platforms. Ps4 pro, Xbox one X, a 500 dollar build. And a 2k+ build.. Have them play different games going from console to console to PC to PC and game to game without knowing at all what's being changed because of 3rd party controllers compatible with every system.. Having them guess the fps and system on those tests when they arent going straight from 30 to 60 to 120 or 144 while switching games between and possibly systems I seriously doubt theyd be as good as they think… I'd host the event and put up 1k towards it just to get it going if they are willing. Come on let's actually do an unbiased study to put this to rest with the "professionals" testing it. Maybe 5-10 minute sessions per system per framerate.. I'm sure everyone on YouTube would love watching it Reply Karmander Dimdung July 21, 2018 I was gonna comment which color i saw but then i remembered i have trouble differentiating blue and purple so now i don't know which color i saw.
