How to Prevent Altitude-Caused Ear Pain | Baby Travel

Hi, I’m Jennifer Durbin, and I’ve got some
great tips for you on how to prevent and treat altitude ear pain. It’s really unfortunate when babies’ ears
hurt when you’re flying. During takeoff and landing, the altitude changes
are so severe, and they just don’t understand what’s going on. They can’t do what you and I do and pop their
ears on their own, so you need to give them a little help. If your child is willing to take a pacifier,
make sure you have one or two handy. That chewing motion really helps to pop their
ears, and make them much more comfortable. If they don’t take a pacifier, make sure you’ve
got a bottle to feed them on takeoff or landing, or nurse them. Either are perfectly good solutions. If you have an older child, consider using
a baby fresh feeder. They’re hospital grade silicone, so you can
put food in it, their favorite food in fact, and they can chew on that during takeoff and
landing. If you have an older child, think about raisins
or gummy snacks. Those are also great ways to get their ears
to pop. And if all else fails, get some homeopathic
ear drops. Those can help relieve the throbbing pain
in their little ears.
