MY FAVORITE BEACH ON KAUA’I IS KEEBEACH. PROBABLY A ANA. OLE BEACH BECAUSE THAT’S WHERE I GREW UP. FREE SCREENINGS TO THOSE UNDER SERVED. HERE WITH ALL OF THE INFORMATION ANNIE VALENTINE, EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR OF PROJECT VISION HAWAI’I. HELLO, THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR JOINING US. THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR ME, TRINI. ORGANIZATION. PROJECT VISION HAWAI’I IS AN ORGANIZATION THAT PROVIDES HEALTH AND HUMAN SERVICE OUT OF OUR MOBILE CLINIC STATE-WIDE. WE HAVE FOUR MOBILE CLINICS AND ONE SOON TO BE TWO HYGIENE UNITS THAT WE PROVIDE THESE SERVICE OUT OF IN COMMUNITIES. HOW DO PEOPLE KNOW THAT YOU’RE GOING TO BE THERE. WELL, WE WORK WITH LOCAL STAKEHOLDERS TO IDENTIFY THE RIGHT PLACES TO GO. WE HAVE STAFF IN EACH COUNTY AND WE REALLY IDENTIFY PEOPLE WHO UNDERSTAND THEIR OWN COMMUNITY SO THAT WE CAN GO TO THE RIGHT PLACES AND PROVIDE THE RIGHT APPROPRIATE WAY. WE ARE LOOKING AT SOME PICTURES HERE. I’M GUESSING VOLUNTEERS ARE VERY IMPORTANT TO YOUR ORGANIZATION. VOLUNTEERS ARE EVERYTHING. WE COULD NOT DELIVER THE SERVICES WITHOUT THEM. WE’RE ABLE TO EXPAND OUR SCOPE AND PROVIDE SO MUCH MORE WORKING WITH OUR VALUABLE VOLUNTEERS. WHAT I LIKE WITH YOUR ORGANIZATION IS YOU REALLY HELP KIND OF THE WHOLE FAMILY. I MEAN THE KEIKI BUT ALSO UP TO KUPUNA. YES. WE HAVE PROPS WORK TO VISION SCREEN KID. WE PROVIDE GLASSES SO THAT CAN HELP KIDS WITH EXCELLING IN SCHOOL BUT ALSO PREVENT BLINDNESS IN CHILDREN. YOU’LL SEE THERE’S A PICTURE OF A YOUNG LADY WITH A PATCH. IDENTIFYING BLINDNESS AT A REALLY YONG AGE WHICH IS WHEN ONE EYE IS STRONGER THAN THE OTHER IS SO IMPORTANT BECAUSE IT CAN ACTUALLY PREVENT FURTHER DETRIMENT TO VISION. I CAN ACTUALLY SPEAK FIRST HAND BECAUSE MY SON, IT WAS DETECTED REALLYERLYY. I THINK HE WAS IN PRESCHOOL STILL WHEN A PARENT WHO WAS AN EYE DOCTOR CAME AND TALKED ABOUT HER PROFESSION. SHE ENDED UP SCREENING THE KID AND THAT’S HOW WE FOUND OUT MY SON NEEDED GLASSES. JUST THINK, IT PROBABLY GOES HIS CONFIDENCE, HIS READING. HE MAY NOT HAVE UNDERSTOOD WHY HE’S STRUGGLING IN CERTAIN AREAS OR WHY PEOPLE ARE GET THEM QUICKLY. IT CAN IMPACT THE TRAJECTORY IMPORTANT.
