What causes sound and pain in the TMJ?

The most common reasons of sounds and pain in the jaw joint are disturbance of TMJ disc space and problems with the muscles holding the lower jawbone and disc. For example, if one of the jaw joint disc space narrows or muscles holding the disc get tensed, when the mouth is opened or closed, the jaw disc jammed causing it to move in a zigzag or to make a sound in the jaw joint. Ignoring such symptoms can lead to lockjaw. If symptoms get severe, these can lead to jaw dislocation. There are 9 cranial nerves pass through TMJ, As cranial nerves also connect the entire spine, face, head, neck, shoulder through paired 68 muscles any disturbance can cause referred pain and malfunctions in related areas For example, it can cause eye, ear and nose related diseases, headache and migraine, dizziness, facial pain, trigeminal neuralgia, neck and shoulder pain, turtle neck, straight neck, scoliosis, kyphosis, cervical and lumbar herniated disc.
